Atheist Questions
Evidence for God, suffering, science, religion's failures - answered honestly.
Why has religion caused so much harm, violence, and suffering throughout history?
The suffering caused by religion stems not from God but from the Human Fall, which broke humanity's vertical relationship with God and, in turn, all horizontal relationships between people. History is the story of God's providential work to restore all humanity by sending central figures (Abel-types). The violence arises when satanic forces work through others (Cain-types) to oppose this restoration. God's ultimate goal is a peaceful, unified Heaven on Earth.
Where is the scientific or empirical evidence that God actually exists?
Empirical evidence for God is found not in a single discovery but in universal patterns observed throughout creation. All things possess a dual structure of an internal nature and external form, as well as a pairing of masculinity and femininity. These patterns point to a Creator who is their origin—a purposeful God who is the harmonious embodiment of both, our Heavenly Parent.
Why doesn't God make His existence obvious to everyone if He wants us to believe?
God desires a relationship of true love, which cannot be coerced. By not making His existence overwhelmingly obvious, He preserves our free will. This allows us to mature as His children and partners by fulfilling our unique portion of responsibility, freely choosing to seek Him and build a reciprocal bond.
If science can explain natural phenomena, why do we need God as an explanation?
Science explains the "how" of creation by describing its physical laws and processes. God provides the "why" by establishing the universe's ultimate purpose, meaning, and value, which stem from His love. Science and faith are complementary, with scripture's creation account harmonizing with scientific discovery. God remains actively involved in history and nature.
If God created everything, who created God? Where did He come from?
God is understood as eternal and uncreated, not self-created: the foundational source of dependent existence. This theological answer distinguishes God from things that begin, while acknowledging philosophical debate. Creation is interpreted as expressing His character and parental love, inviting human maturity, loving relationships, responsible choices, and care for nature.
If God is all-powerful and all-loving, why does He allow evil and suffering in the world?
God, in His love, gave humanity free will. The misuse of this freedom at the human Fall introduced sin and suffering—a tragic outcome that grieves God. History has since become a painful process of restoration, a struggle where God works to separate good from evil to reclaim His ideal.
With so many religions claiming to be true, how can we know which one is right?
A true religion reveals the path of restoration to God. Jesus began this as a True Parent offering rebirth, a mission now spiritually continued by the Holy Spirit. The Bible indicates Christ returns not on clouds but born in the flesh, where he will face rejection. The right teaching today clarifies these prophecies, explaining the complete path to restoring God's ideal on Earth.
