With so many religions claiming to be true, how can we know which one is right?

A true religion reveals the path of restoration to God. Jesus began this as a True Parent offering rebirth, a mission now spiritually continued by the Holy Spirit. The Bible indicates Christ returns not on clouds but born in the flesh, where he will face rejection. The right teaching today clarifies these prophecies, explaining the complete path to restoring God's ideal on Earth.

Navigating diverse religious claims poses a profound challenge, making the search for a unifying truth crucial for understanding life's purpose and our relationship with God. The fragmentation of belief prevents humanity from resolving its deepest conflicts and realizing its divine potential. The path to clarity lies not in dismissing different faiths, but in discovering a standard that can evaluate and unite the partial truths they contain, revealing the complete path for humanity’s restoration back to God.

The Biblical Foundation: Progressive Revelation

The Bible itself reveals that truth is revealed progressively. The Apostle Paul acknowledged the limits of his era’s understanding, stating, "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known" (1 Corinthians 13:12). This anticipates a time when a more complete revelation will appear. Jesus promised further insights, telling his disciples, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come" (John 16:12-13). This passage prophesies a deeper understanding to be unveiled in the future. Jesus often taught in parables because, as Matthew 13:34 notes, he did not speak to the crowds without them. This method implied that a more direct teaching would come when humanity was ready, like putting "new wine" into "new wineskins" (Matthew 9:17). Scripture, therefore, points toward a time for a new and expanded expression of truth.

The Standard for Truth: The Path of Restoration

The essential standard for any true religion is its ability to explain the path of restoration. Humanity’s original parents fell, separating from God and bequeathing a fallen nature, or original sin, to all their descendants. This created a world dominated by Satan, which Jesus called “this world” (John 12:31). To save his lost children, God has worked throughout history to restore humanity to its original state. This salvation requires a savior, the Messiah, who can reverse the Fall and create a new lineage for God.

Jesus came with the mission to be this savior. He came as the True Parent to give rebirth to fallen humanity, as the True Teacher to awaken us from spiritual ignorance, and as the True King to reclaim the world from Satan. Rebirth out of a sinful lineage requires sinless parents. Jesus came as the True Father, one with God. However, a father alone cannot give birth. Jesus was to have found a bride and, as True Parents, begun God’s sinless lineage on Earth. Because he was crucified before he could do so, he and the Holy Spirit have since worked to give believers a spiritual rebirth. The standard of truth, therefore, is a teaching that clarifies this path of restoration centered on the Messiah's role as a True Parent.

Recognizing Truth in the Last Days

To discern the right path today, we must understand how God fulfills his providence in the present age. This requires correctly interpreting the prophecies of Christ’s return. Many believe Jesus will reappear literally on clouds of vapor, based on passages in Revelation and Daniel. However, the Bible provides its own key for interpretation. Malachi prophesied that the prophet Elijah, who ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire, would return before the Lord’s day. Yet he came again not from the sky, but born on Earth as John the Baptist. Similarly, though Daniel prophesied a "son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven," Jesus was born on Earth to a woman. As it is written, "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law" (Galatians 4:4).

These examples show that “coming on the clouds” is symbolic, referring to a person of divine mission being born into the world. The returning Lord will come in the same way—born in the flesh. The Bible warns against doctrines that deny this, stating, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist" (2 John 1:7). Furthermore, Jesus prophesied that at his return, he "must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation" (Luke 17:25), just as people ignored the warning in Noah's day. If he were to come on clouds in glory, how could he be rejected or made to suffer? The truest teaching today must explain these biblical signs, clarifying how, when, and where Christ returns to complete the work of restoration.

Living the Principle

Applying this understanding means shifting from asking "Which religion is right?" to "Which teaching fully illuminates God's plan of restoration through the Messiah?" This fosters a more discerning and unified spiritual search.

1. Evaluate teachings based on their ability to logically explain the origin of sin and the necessity of a Messiah, or True Parents, for humanity’s rebirth. 2. Examine how a religion interprets prophecies of the Second Advent. Does its explanation align with the biblical pattern of the Messiah being born on Earth and facing rejection? 3. Seek a truth that is universal, aiming to save all of humanity and establish a world of peace, fulfilling God's original purpose for creation.
