Trinity & God's Nature
Who God is, how Father, Son and Holy Spirit relate, and why Jesus prayed to the Father.
What is the role of the Holy Spirit in the Trinity?
The Holy Spirit is God's comforting, truth-guiding presence who brings about our spiritual rebirth, as Jesus taught Nicodemus. This teaching deepens this by revealing the Spirit's maternal identity — the spiritual True Mother working with Jesus, the True Father, to rebirth fallen humanity as God's children, fulfilling the feminine dimension of God's image and heart.
What is the Trinity and how can God be three persons yet one God?
The Trinity describes God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit working as one in heart and purpose to give humanity rebirth. Jesus is one with God while remaining distinct from Him, and believers are meant to enter that same oneness of love.
If Jesus is God, why did He pray to the Father?
Jesus prayed to the Father because he was God's perfected Son, a real human being in complete oneness with God, not God Himself. His prayers express a genuine parent-child relationship and model the destiny of every person: to grow into the same oneness of heart with our Heavenly Father that Jesus achieved.
Is the Trinity doctrine found explicitly in the Bible?
The word Trinity never appears in Scripture, and the formal doctrine was defined centuries later. The Bible does present Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working as one, but the philosophical formulation is the church's interpretation rather than a stated text.
What is the nature and personality of God?
God's nature and personality are revealed as a harmonious union of dual characteristics—internal character and external form, masculinity and femininity—centered on Heart, the irrepressible impulse to love an object partner. Scripture shows a personal God who thinks, feels, grieves, and rejoices. Created in His image, we can know Him not as an abstract concept but as our Heavenly Parent.
How can Jesus be both fully God and fully man?
Jesus is fully human, and because He fulfilled the purpose of creation and became completely one with God, God's divinity dwelt in Him fully. His humanity was essential; only as a man could He come as the new Adam to give humanity rebirth.
How does spiritual rebirth occur through the Trinity?
Spiritual rebirth occurs through the Trinity, which comprises God the Father, Jesus as the spiritual True Father, and the Holy Spirit as the spiritual True Mother. This spiritual Trinity restores humanity to God's lineage, freeing us from original sin. It prepares us for the complete physical and spiritual rebirth that will come through the returning Messiah and his bride, who will establish the substantial True Parents and the Kingdom of Heaven.
How is the Trinity meant to be formed?
This teaching clarifies the Trinity as God's original ideal for Adam and Eve to form a perfect family unit with Him on Earth. After the Fall, a spiritual Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit began restoring humanity. Complete restoration awaits the Second Coming, where the returning Messiah and his Bride (True Parents) will establish a substantial, physical Trinity, fulfilling God's original purpose for physical and spiritual salvation.
Is God a parent?
God is truly our parent—not metaphorically but essentially. Possessing a harmonious masculine and feminine nature, God created humanity out of His parental Heart to experience love's joy. The Fall made Him a grieving parent, and all of salvation history is His search to bring His lost children home.
Is God a God of glory, or suffering?
God is glorious in His original nature, but history has made Him a God of suffering. Because His parental heart binds Him to humanity, every human fall and betrayal has grieved Him. His glory will be fully revealed when His lost children return and the world of true love is restored.
How can a person achieve rebirth?
A person achieves rebirth by being grafted into God's true lineage. While spiritual rebirth occurs through faith in Jesus and the Holy Spirit, complete restoration requires receiving the Holy Marriage Blessing from the True Parents. Believers must fulfill their responsibility through faith, practical love, and indemnity to overcome inherited sin.
Can God do whatever he wants, or realize people's wishes at any time?
God is all-powerful, but he acts through the laws he established and through human freedom and responsibility. Prayers are answered when they accord with his purpose and rest on a foundation, so delay reflects respect for our part, not divine indifference or weakness of power.
